COUNTRIES COVERED BY EUROPEAN PATENTS

Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

A request may also be made to extend patent protection to two further European states, namely Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.  It is therefore possible to obtain patent protection in 40 European countries by filing a single patent application at the European Patent Office (EPO).

It has recently been announced that it will become possible to extend European patents to cover Morocco at a future date.  This is the first time that an agreement has been reached between the EPO and a non-European state.
